In short: the information, tools and courses on this website are general information only, not legal advice, and using them does not make you our client. Our tools give estimates only and do not determine visa eligibility. Course content is licensed for your personal use, and change-of-mind refunds are not available, though your rights under the Australian Consumer Law are not affected. Website content belongs to us and must not be copied without permission. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for loss arising from your use of the website. These terms are governed by the laws of Victoria. Please read the full terms below.
1. Website information and legal advice
This website provides general information about migration services. Reading a page, using a tool or sending an enquiry does not by itself engage the practice or create an agreement for legal representation. The practice must first confirm it can assist and agree the scope and terms of the work with you.
Website content is not a substitute for advice about your particular circumstances. Migration requirements and government processing times can change. Do not rely on a website result for an urgent visa, review or appeal deadline.
Terms of Use
Last updated: 2 October 2026
1. About these terms
This website is operated by Chua Tan Associates ("we", "us", "our"), a law firm based at Level 2, 262 Queen Street, Melbourne VIC 3000.
These terms apply to your use of this website, including our news articles, free online tools, online courses, and any enquiry or booking forms. By using this website, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the website.
Our legal services, consultations and Immigration Strategy Reports are also governed by the separate costs disclosure and terms of engagement we provide to you where required to. If those documents conflict with these terms, those documents apply.
2. General information only, not legal advice
The information on this website, including our articles, tools, courses and other materials, is general information only. It is not legal advice, and it does not take your personal circumstances into account.
Immigration laws, policies, occupation lists, fees and processing times change frequently. Although we aim to keep our content accurate and up to date, we do not guarantee that information on this website is complete, current or applicable to your situation.
You should not act, or refrain from acting, based on information on this website without first obtaining legal advice about your circumstances.
3. No lawyer–client relationship
Using this website, our tools or our courses, or sending us an enquiry, does not create a lawyer–client relationship. A lawyer–client relationship begins only when we have confirmed in writing that we will act for you and you have accepted our terms of engagement.
Please do not send us confidential or time-sensitive documents until we have confirmed that we can act for you. Sending an enquiry does not stop any deadline from running. If your matter involves an urgent deadline, such as a visa refusal or cancellation, please call us directly.
4. Free online tools
Our free tools, including the PR Points Calculator and the Partner Visa Consultation Guide, are designed to help you prepare for a consultation. They:
produce estimates and general guidance only
rely entirely on the information you enter
do not determine your eligibility for any visa
are not a substitute for legal advice
Visa eligibility is decided by the Department of Home Affairs and other decision-makers based on the evidence available at the relevant time. We are not responsible for decisions you make based on the results of our tools.
5. Online courses
Access and licence
When you purchase an online course, we grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to access the course for your own learning for the access period. You must not share your login details, or copy, record, resell or distribute course content.
Nature of course content
Our courses provide general information about Australian visas. They are not legal advice and do not create a lawyer–client relationship. Course content reflects the law and policy at the date shown in the course. Requirements may have changed since then.
Refunds
Because you receive immediate access to course content on purchase, we do not offer refunds if you change your mind, no longer need the course, or do not complete it.
Nothing in these terms excludes any rights you have under the Australian Consumer Law, including consumer guarantees that cannot be excluded.
6. Consultations and Immigration Strategy Reports
When you book a consultation or order an Immigration Strategy Report, we will confirm the scope, price and any applicable terms before we begin. Prices on this website are in Australian dollars and include GST, unless stated otherwise.
An Immigration Strategy Report reflects the information you provide and the law and policy at the date it is prepared. We are not responsible for the consequences of incomplete or inaccurate information provided to us, or for later changes in law or policy.
Rescheduling and cancellations
Consultations
You may reschedule or cancel a consultation free of charge by giving us at least 24 hours' notice before the scheduled time. If you cancel with the required notice, we will refund your consultation fee in full, or apply it to a new booking if you prefer.
If you cancel or reschedule with less than 24 hours' notice, or do not attend, the consultation fee is non-refundable. At our discretion, we may allow one reschedule where you could not give notice because of circumstances beyond your control, such as illness or emergency.
If you are more than 15 minutes late, we may need to shorten or reschedule the consultation, and the full fee will still apply.
Immigration Strategy Reports
You may cancel your order for a full refund before your consultation for the report takes place, provided you give at least 24 hours' notice.
Once the consultation has taken place, or we have begun preparing your report, the fee is non-refundable if you change your mind.
If we need to reschedule
If we need to cancel or reschedule your consultation, we will contact you as early as possible to arrange a new time. If no suitable time can be found, we will refund your fee in full.
These terms do not affect your rights under the Australian Consumer Law.
7. Payments
Payments made through this website are processed by Stripe. We do not store your full card details. By making a payment, you confirm that you are authorised to use the payment method provided.
8. Intellectual property
All content on this website, including text, articles, tools, course materials, graphics, logos and design, is owned by or licensed to Chua Tan Associates and is protected by copyright and other intellectual property laws.
You may view, download and print content for your personal, non-commercial use. You must not otherwise reproduce, adapt, publish, distribute or commercially use any content without our prior written permission.
9. Acceptable use
When using this website, you must not:
provide false or misleading information, or impersonate another person
use the website for any unlawful purpose
attempt to gain unauthorised access to the website or its systems
introduce viruses or other harmful code
copy, scrape or harvest content or data from the website by automated means
interfere with other people's use of the website
We may restrict or terminate your access to the website, including any course, if you breach these terms.
10. Third-party websites
This website may link to third-party websites, such as government websites and assessing authorities. We provide these links for convenience only. We do not control and are not responsible for the content, accuracy or availability of those websites.
11. Limitation of liability
To the extent permitted by law:
this website and its content are provided "as is", without warranties of any kind
we are not liable for any loss or damage arising from your use of, or reliance on, this website, our tools, our courses or any information on the website, including indirect or consequential loss
we do not guarantee that the website will be available without interruption or free from errors or viruses
Where our liability under the Australian Consumer Law cannot be excluded but can be limited, our liability is limited, at our option, to resupplying the relevant services or paying the cost of having them resupplied.
Our liability is limited by a scheme approved under Professional Standards Legislation.
12. Privacy
We collect and handle personal information in accordance with our Privacy Policy, which forms part of these terms.
13. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time by publishing a new version on this website. The version in force at the time you use the website applies. Changes to course terms will not reduce your access to a course you have already purchased.
14. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of Victoria, Australia. You submit to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Victoria and the courts entitled to hear appeals from them.
15. Contact us

2. Consultation and report fees
The following advertised prices are in Australian dollars and include GST. Confirm the selected service and agreed scope with the team before payment.
These are consultation or report offers, not a quotation for preparing and lodging a visa application or conducting a review. Do not assume that government charges or other third-party costs are included. Any additional work or charges must be explained and agreed separately.
- Initial consultation
- AU$330 · 30 minutesIncludes GST.
- After-hours consultation
- AU$495 · 30 minutesIncludes GST.
- Immigration strategy report
- AU$840 · Up to 1 hour consultation includedIncludes GST. Includes up to 1 hour of consultation.
3. Hours, time zone and appointment confirmation
Standard consultation hours are Monday to Friday, 9:00 am–5:00 pm. Bookings use Melbourne local time (AEST/AEDT), automatically adjusted for daylight saving.
After-hours and weekend consultations are by appointment, subject to availability.
Submitting an enquiry does not reserve a time. No appointment is confirmed until the team or an approved booking process confirms the date, time and consultation format. After-hours and weekend appointments require the team’s confirmation even if payment has been made.
This website does not currently take payments or offer a connected calendar checkout. Use only payment instructions you have verified with the practice. Never send card details through an enquiry form.
4. Written immigration strategy report
An Immigration Strategy Report is a personalised written plan prepared by our immigration lawyers. It includes up to an hour of consultation, in person at our Melbourne office or by phone or video. During the consultation, we discuss your background, your goals and your family or business circumstances.
Your report sets out the visa pathways that may be available to you, the key requirements and risks, the documents you are likely to need, and our recommended next steps and timeline. Where relevant, it also identifies related issues, such as property, a family business or estate planning, that you may need to consider.
We will send your report by email within 5 business days of your consultation, once we have received all the information we need. If we need further information or documents, we will let you know promptly, and the timeframe will start once we receive them.
Your report is based on the information you provide and the law and policy at the date it is prepared. Immigration law changes regularly, so if you wait some time before acting on your report, please check with us that the advice is still current. The report does not guarantee any outcome, and it does not include preparing or lodging any application.
Your report is for your personal use and for the people it concerns, such as your family members or your business. You may share it with them and your other professional advisers, but it must not be published or relied on by anyone else without our written consent.
5. Rescheduling, cancellations and refunds
Rescheduling is permitted. Contact our team to arrange a new time, subject to availability.
For change-of-mind cancellations, the stated policy is that fees are non-refundable, except where the law requires otherwise. This does not remove any entitlement to a refund or another remedy where services are not supplied as agreed or consumer guarantees are not met.
Your rights under Australian Consumer Law and other applicable laws are preserved. Nothing here limits rights that cannot lawfully be excluded. A service issue must be assessed on its circumstances; the words “non-refundable” do not decide every refund request.
No additional cancellation deadline, rescheduling charge or automatic missed-appointment fee has been specified on this website. Any additional booking conditions must be disclosed and agreed before you proceed. If the practice cannot provide an agreed service, contact it to arrange an appropriate resolution, including any refund required by law.
6. Online tools and outcomes
The PR points calculator is a draft discussion aid whose rules require legal review. Its output does not confirm a valid points claim, visa eligibility, nomination, sponsorship or an invitation. The partner consultation guide organises information for a discussion; it does not choose a visa or make an eligibility decision.
Government decisions and processing times are outside the practice’s control. No website statement, example outcome or tool result guarantees the outcome of your matter. Check important information with a qualified adviser before acting.
7. Information you provide
Provide information that is accurate and complete to the best of your knowledge, and tell the team promptly about relevant changes or deadlines. Only provide another person’s information where you are entitled to do so.
Keep initial enquiries brief. Identity documents, detailed evidence and sensitive history should be provided through a secure channel agreed with the practice. The privacy policy explains the website’s information handling.
8. External websites and online courses
Links to government, social media and other third-party websites are provided for convenience. Their content, availability and privacy practices are controlled by their operators. A link alone does not mean that the practice endorses everything on the destination site.
The Online courses page is currently a coming-soon page, not an enrolment or purchase facility. Any future course, calendar or payment service will need its own confirmed access, privacy and purchase information before it is offered.
9. Responsible use of the website
Do not use the website unlawfully, submit malicious or misleading material, interfere with its security or attempt to access restricted accounts without authorisation. Staff access is for invited team members only.
Website text, designs and images may be protected by intellectual property rights belonging to the practice or their respective owners. Respect those rights and any applicable licence. Nothing here prevents use that is permitted by law.
The site may be interrupted for maintenance or technical reasons. This does not exclude the practice’s legal obligations or provide a blanket release from liability for its services.
10. Questions, engagement terms and updates
Raise questions about a fee, appointment, service or these terms with the practice through a verified contact. Its final business and complaint contact details are awaiting confirmation; do not rely on example details on a preview site.
Any separately agreed engagement terms and costs disclosure govern the work the practice accepts, subject to applicable law. These website terms are not a replacement for those documents.
Updated website terms apply prospectively. Publishing new wording does not by itself change a fee or appointment already agreed with you. The date above identifies this draft, which still requires the practice’s legal review before approval.
